What did Jesus mean when he said to work "while it is day...?"
John 11:9-10
Jesus answered Are there not twelve hours in the day If any walk in the day they stumble not because they see the light of this world But if any walk in the night they stumble because there is no light in them
Comments: Jesus not only spoke of simple daylight hours with light we get from the sun, but he spoke of himself and of those who walk in his light.
Today, as this is being written, Jesus is the light of the World. He is both with and in those who follow him. We are supposed to shine his light through our words, actions, and reactions, to brighten the corners where we are.
As this is being written, in many, if not most, places on earth, Christ is freely preached and served openly. But even in places where Believers are persecuted and killed, his light shines through them. Jesus said he is the Light of the World. He also said, we who believe in him are the lights of the world.
The salt of the earth, as this is being written, is still salty enough to win souls and make disciples. But the day is coming when, as Jesus predicted, the salt will no longer be salty, and then the “night” will come.
There is a duality to Jesus’ words, recorded in John 11:9-10. In another passage he spoke of working while it is “day” and that a “night” is coming in which no one will be able to work—only to survive, to endure to the end. Today, those who do not walk in his light, already belong to the night.
Jesus said that in John chapter three, when he said those who believe in him already possess eternal life, but those who believe not are already condemned.
Jesus’ words, in John chapter 11 verses 9-10, can be interpreted both literally and metaphorically without contradiction.
One day, a literal city, the Holy Jerusalem, literally built of precious stones, will descend from heaven and lighten the earth with the Lamb’s light. There will literally be no night there (or on the earth which will be lighted by it) because Jesus—the Capstone—will be the light of it.
Today, while Jesus’ city of living stones (every Believer) is still being built, he lights the earth through those who are his temples on earth and through whom his light shines.
The Midnight Cry … Escape from Planet Earth … God's daughters are not merely support structures to God's sons in his building …
